The rocoto is a fruit of Andean origin is native to Peru. It was the favorite condiment of the Incas and remains the favorite spicy condiment of Peruvians. Its original Quechua name is luqutu or rukutu. Its presence is documented by the ancient Peruvians of the Paracas, Nazca, Mochica and Chimú cultures through textiles, ceramics and domestic remains.
